Initial breakdown was a hose leak in Budapest - fixed but took them a whole day, overnight stay in hotel so missed birthday night in hotel in Bratislava (not necessarily linked)
One week later lost power on Motorway in Slovakia. SS exhaust fitted in UK had lost it's bolts and was hanging. Wires above burnt/melted but could have been that or simply loom was against hot pipework above
3 parts (sent from UK) and 4 goes by garage (allegedly at wiring repair/check)
managed to work out I could get into 2nd gear by hitting hold button, then seemed to drive ok (5 or 6 weeks passed at this point)
Breakdown company said they would ship Bongo home and not to drive it, but I would have to pay my own flight as breakdown cover only has £3000 limit for year, hose repair amounted to £600 against that amount - 4 companies involved all charging their bit e.g. company who they use for overseas arrangements charge £170 for setting up account and £50 for taxis we never had. Overnight stay in hotel as they didn't try and fix by roadside.
decided to use hold button and on way to Munich breakdown company called me and said it was never cheaper to get me home from Munich, so enough for my flight too!
Had to leave Bongo at airport parking as the breakdown truck and trailer broke down on way to me!!!
3 days later Bongo arrived at my house.
Got new gearbox fitted, no change. Garage wanted £200 more than quoted, which they did not get.
Undid wiring repair bundle and worked fine when I drove it after that.
Just hope it stays that way on next big trip for which I will need new breakdown cover.

On the upside I bought a 2006 Audi Sport Convertible from a neighbour and have been turning heads in Slovakia due to open top Audi with steering on the 'wrong' side with strange number plates. (where I've just bought a house (well the old village school actually) near a ski resort and mountain biking trails - with scenery to at least match the Lake district and more activities and stunning views. It's been an action packed year, so far

An amazing tale snowrat. Sounds like everything but the Bongo was to blame so hope you stick with her and that compromised wiring was the cause. Good luck with the Slovakian schoolhouse - that sounds amazing also.

Thanks Mike
Once complete, I'll have to offer something like free 'wildish' camping for BF members once done, water, showers and even bed breaks lol

The countdown to finding out is definitely on. I'll have a good idea once I get home in less than 2 weeks if she will maintain her previous reliability.

Re: Flashing Hold Light, Only Changing Up on Very High Revs SOLVED!!!

Post by snowrat » Sun Apr 23, 2017 4:48 pm

SOLVED at last

After four garages including a Bongo specialist had tried and I had tried several things to find what was causing the fault, finally got it sorted.

I had pointed it out to 3 of the garages, asking if it could have been the turbo due to loss of power?

Well that was it. The reporting to the diagnostics/speed sensor/rev counter/gear change must be somehow linked into the turbo speed or it kicking in.

Now everything is back to normal although in the whole saga it has had new speed sensors, gearbox and turbo so now checking the fuel consumption

Just read this full tread ,what a mission of work but I'm really glad you got it sorted !
You talked about clearing the fault codes , how is this done ?
I know how to read the codes but not how they are cleared form the system and can't find any information on this .
Any help would be great
Thanks in advance

Sorry for the late reply, just stumbled across this thread again!
To clear fault codes you need to remove all power from vehicle and they will clear.
Disconnect the battery terminals and then pump the brake pedal to use up any residual power.
This cleared them for me, several times!
