Initial breakdown was a hose leak in Budapest - fixed but took them a whole day, overnight stay in hotel so missed birthday night in hotel in Bratislava (not necessarily linked)mikeonb4c wrote:Jeebers what a tale. Glad its now fixed and hope it stays fixed for you. Just shows what can happen - i'd need to re-read the whole thread to remember how you came to have burnt/bundled wires that had allegedly been redone three times
One week later lost power on Motorway in Slovakia. SS exhaust fitted in UK had lost it's bolts and was hanging. Wires above burnt/melted but could have been that or simply loom was against hot pipework above
3 parts (sent from UK) and 4 goes by garage (allegedly at wiring repair/check)
managed to work out I could get into 2nd gear by hitting hold button, then seemed to drive ok (5 or 6 weeks passed at this point)
Breakdown company said they would ship Bongo home and not to drive it, but I would have to pay my own flight as breakdown cover only has £3000 limit for year, hose repair amounted to £600 against that amount - 4 companies involved all charging their bit e.g. company who they use for overseas arrangements charge £170 for setting up account and £50 for taxis we never had. Overnight stay in hotel as they didn't try and fix by roadside.
decided to use hold button and on way to Munich breakdown company called me and said it was never cheaper to get me home from Munich, so enough for my flight too!
Had to leave Bongo at airport parking as the breakdown truck and trailer broke down on way to me!!!
3 days later Bongo arrived at my house.
Got new gearbox fitted, no change. Garage wanted £200 more than quoted, which they did not get.
Undid wiring repair bundle and worked fine when I drove it after that.
Just hope it stays that way on next big trip for which I will need new breakdown cover.
On the upside I bought a 2006 Audi Sport Convertible from a neighbour and have been turning heads in Slovakia due to open top Audi with steering on the 'wrong' side with strange number plates. (where I've just bought a house (well the old village school actually) near a ski resort and mountain biking trails - with scenery to at least match the Lake district and more activities and stunning views. It's been an action packed year, so far
