If you can get the codes and post here I can look up in the Mazda Bongo workshop manual which should be the definitive reference, I think the link I posted is a general Mazda one but does at least show how to get the codes out. Let us know if you can get the codes....

I have a 2.5td 2WD and have the current problem,

About a week before had a perforated drivers side radiator hose and gearbox/engine got soaked.

The driving on motorway got loss of power and hold light started flashing.
in the possible absence of technology and knowledge take it back to basics, its only wires and metal, the gearbox is really sensitive to voltage alteration/drop so check that the alternator is doing what it should, good out put on tick over and raised charge rate etc when revved and loaded when things are switched on, the leaking hose could have damaged the alternator diodes if the engine got swamped.
when replacing the bust hose has someone knocked the sensor lead/sensor end plastic bit, this is the temp sensor on the drivers side of the head both of these could put your hold light on giving the impression that the fault is gearbox.

The garage has been shut for 5 days so nothing much happened. But today they rtried the VSS and it changed nothing.

They have just asked me about the resistor.
Resistor has 12 Ohm resistance. We do not know, what is the right value for it?

Can someone help with this????
I think they are referring to part number 18-831 on lush projects

ive searched through the bongo manual and can find no mention of it anywhere sorry.
the best we can do is ask someone with an automatic bongo to physically check it, if you go onto the drawing mentioned above it gives the mazda part number then at the right hand end it states A T, this presumably is automatic trans only, i checked my bongo today for you but mines a manual box so doesnt have one fitted.

for those who care to help its a little metal strip/one inch square box about 5 inches long mounted with a couple of small bolts on to the top face of the chassis leg, its straight in front of you if you lift up the passy seat, if you were to put both hands on the chassis it would be under your right hand, .

maybe geoff could help with this.

i will google the part number see if that shows anything.

the part number is correct.
the best i can suggest is you contact someone who has access to mazda bongo parts ordering system, someone like vospers mazda in plymouth . or mazda warrington england these 2 mazda dealers are very helpful. give them the part number and see what info they can supply.

Thanks again NB
I'll create a separate thread and see if anyone can help.
I've also messaged George at Bongospares who is always very helpful

Just been out and checked the part ( G61318831 18831 RESISTOR AT) on my vehicle its the same part number on the diagrams and it is indeed 12.6Ώ so that sounds OK for the part.

There is no point in speculating as to what the issue is, you MUST read the fault codes then you will know which area to look in, either speed sensor/wiring or TPS/wiring I would guess. There are 16/17 different reasons why the hold light will flash according to the chatrt Jimmo62 has posted up earlier in this thread on how to retrieve the code(s). I have a listing that list an extra code to Jimmo62's listing: 16 - EGR valve.
is there a way to get the fault codes without a diagnostic reader?

Jimmo62 post earlier in this thread clearly shows how to get the code(s) out, but seems to have been completely ignored.

Without a code(s) its all just guessing I'm afraid & you will be lucky to fix it going about it like this.

Thank you.
I did see that earlier but assumed it needed some special piece md equipment.
I gave it to the garage but they essentially said it meant nothing to them!

I've just had a thorough read now.
Am I getting this correctly...
to get the fault codes you put a direct connection between the first two pins, then a 2nd connection between the 2nd set of pins that has an led in it ?

All you need to do it connect TAT & Ground & read the flashing code(s) on the HOLD light.

Many thanks, I got confused reading about the 2nd connection with LED mentioned. Will get onto that and report back.

Managed to get the codes. Still need some clarification if anyone can help please :)

Before I disconnected the battery I was getting a series of flashes...
6 medium speed
6 slow speed
4 fast speed

I then disconnected the battery (and purged using brake pedal) which cleared all codes.
I had to drive around until I got the flashing hold light again with the diagnostics still attached I then go...
6 medium speed
6 medium speed
recurring

Question is: -
Do I take notice of the code (possibly 64, 3-2 timing solenoid valve) before the disconnection, or
Code 6 - Vehicle speed sensor (already replaced, old one had lower voltage than newer one tried but hasn't fixed the problem), or
Code 66 - Line pressure solenoid valve?

To recap: -
From 1st gear 2nd gear needs 3000 to 4000 revs to change
2nd to 3rd 2500 to 3500 to change
3rd to 4th slightly higher
Changes down ok
Initial fault was loss of radiator water over transmission area, hose was fixed a week before this happened

There are only two flash speeds as it says on the info, with a pause. How long the pause is between the flashes tells you if you have 6 or 66. Read the info posted, its all there.
