Advice for Bongo sale

Post by Silkydog » Thu Jan 01, 2015 12:52 pm

Have bongo n reg (1996), recently failed MOT on the following

Exhaust emits an excessive level of metered smoke for a turbo charged engine.
Near side front windscreen wiper does not clear the windscreen effectively
Offside front windscreen wiper does not clear the windscreen effectively
Near side battery insecure
Offside battery insecure
Offside rear fog lamp not working
Near side headlamp aim too high
Offside headlamp aim too high
Offside front (inner sill) suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded
Near side front anti-roll bar linkage has slight play in a ball joint
Rear brake pipe slightly corroded
Offside front tyre worn close to the legal limit
Near side rear tyre worn close to the legal limit
Offside rear tyre worn close to the legal limit
Offside front brake pipe slightly corroded
Offside front wheel bearing has slight play
Front brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened

Has just been SORNED

Any advice on how much it might sell for and is Bongo Fury the best place to sell?

Any advice on what it may sell for?

Firstly what area are you in?
Tyres close to legal limit are not failures either they are or not illegal,a slightly rusted pipe is not a failure,a bearing can pass on advisory with slight play it has to be excessive again pass and advise only .the same applies to the brakes .
Emissions may just need a tin of diesel cleaner down its throat ,new filters and a good blast down the motorwY holding the revs up.welding would be require ,got to see to cost this one!
It may not be as bad as it looks, what has it actually FAILED on and what is advisory?

I am in Linlithgow. The fails go up to offside front (inner sill) after that it is advisory. Unfortunately I am going out for the day in the next 15 mins but tell me a time if you want to have a look at it.

These are all minor/normal things. I doubt even the welding would cost much. On the other hand the corrosion may hint at more work needing doing soon. What's the bottom line here. Do you want rid at all costs or would you prefer to keep it. People may be more confident in buying it if you spend and get it in order. Otherwise, especially if corrosion is suspected of being established, you might struggle to get £1k for it?

All look to be simple jobs, if you are not handy get a few quotes, fix it then decide
Its much easier to fix what you have and know than start looking for another
I once spent £500 on a car worth £750, but 4 years on its still going having done another 50,000 miles

Might be worth phoning Campers Scotland and discussing repair costs with them. Probably the most experienced Bongo people near you.
Did the testing garage not give you some idea of repair costs?
As has been said, the majority of the faults are easy to fix.
Freda now gone, :-/ But nice wee Burstner obtained ;-)
