Post by brummiebongo » Sun Apr 12, 2015 4:26 pm

so if i buy a tin top.... get roof kitchen and all the things i need fitted....is this going to hit me more on insurance?
as its not a camper to start with...as seen this makes its cheaper to insure if stated camper on log book
otherwise i have then give a big list of all the mods done to the van

Firstly ,some insurers wont care and will give a good price regardless of the interior conversion and whether its registered as a car or camper.

Secondly, if you install a sink and have a bed, and a gas hob, you can register it as a camper easily .

Used to be you converted your van, took it to the local VOSA office with your V5, they would rubber stamp the change and send off the V5 to be changed.
Now I think you have to take photos of the interior and send them off to Swansea. By the sounds of your list should be no problem to re-register.
Be aware that a company who insure as an MPV won't want to pay out for your fridge, cooker, awning etc.
Probably Very Little Help.

Adrian Flux and many other insurance cos will insure you with out changing the V5 mines a * seater tin top with a kitchen in the boot ( hob and sink) its a MPV on the log book, I just supply a short list of mods, hob sink, roof rack and tow bar etc.
Costs me £200 a year as a second vehicle
I believ if you go down the DVLA route some people have had difficulty
