bongo insurance

Post by plewis268 » Thu Mar 05, 2015 11:50 am

The insurance quote for my new Bongo is sky high (£650). I have two other cars with good no claims bonuses, but I want to continue using them both, so I cannot transfer the no claims bonuses to the new Bongo, which is worth £12000. One of my cars is only worth £1000 and has 5 years no claims bonus. Could I, and would it be worth it, to take the cheaper car off the road temporarily and use the no claims bonus from that to insure the Bongo, THEN reinsure the cheaper car without any no claims bonus? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Try Adrian Flux. They take into account any no claims you have running on other cars, even if you can't directly use it.

Really! Admittedly with a limited mileage (I think 8000) and value of £5k they insure my 8 seater for under £300!

Postcode, age, experience all come into play obviously but that seems very excessive. They used to insure my modified 205GTI when I was under 25 for £280!!!!

If it's not converted, try Admiral multicar policy as they will apply the benefit of the discount to all vehicles. If converted, try Camping & Caravanning Club. As I recall, they also will also take into account your NCD. For info, my premium is £230 fully comp for two drivers based on 3000 miles annually, but your risk profile will be completely different so don't expect it to be the same.

Is this a new quote or renewal? Adrian Flux do send high renewals, just phone them, say you are going elsewhere and they suddenly are able to beat last years quote.

I had exact same issue here with an unconverted Bongo as an addition to the family. Resolved by playing loyalty card and taking multicar + "introductory" discount with existing insurer of our regular cars. If you also have or want recovery then try factoring this in as well. Its amazing what they do when faced with possibly losing insurance on 3 vehicles!

as Simon says is it converted or unconverted mine was converted and I found http://www.campton.co.uk/ to be very competitive I started off with no no claims discount but they took into account my 9 years NCD on my other car

If it is converted try Lifesure they can often "mirror" NCD.

BUT you will need to have at least one of the other vehicles insured with them.

This is one of the biggest cons on the insurance scam, NCD should be with the driver not the vehicle, about time people stood up and got counted. The vehicle isn't driving its self, its the driver who would crash it, so why have the NCD on the vehicle?
Just my thoughts for what there worth ;)

They'll also load you on all vehicles if you claim, not just the policy you claimed on.

You just need to shop around.
When mine was just an 8 seater people carrier I was quoted £1000.
I added a small kitchen with hob and sink in the boot.
It then was classed as a camper by some insurance co's even though its still an mpv on the log book.
I then paid less than £300, its limited to 3000 miles a year and must have a fire extinguisher in it.
They look at your other vehicles and any claims / convictions, then quite often Mirror the No claims to the Bongo.

Thank you all for your interest and suggestions. We have had an amazing reduction by having multi-car with Admiral. (£245 for Bongo with 6000 miles and low voluntary excess). This was down from £655 initial best quote. Have to wait for registration docs before it is finalised, but it's looking good. Thanks again.

Agreed Bob. They multiply pain across policies but not NCD relief. Nuts, unless you are an underwriter/shareholder. Could I also be right that they load you even if you have an accident and don't claim?
