Re: Electical fault? dead battery?
Curious. After an hour (much shorter than I'd expected from a 7.5A max charger) the charger slipped into "Maintaining" mode, removing charger and testing with multi-meter showed a voltage in the battery of 12.5v. Popped the charger onto the LB to get that up-to-full again and let the SB re...

Re: Electical fault? dead battery?
Old physics lectures just came back to me, and I now understand the reason for the dimness of the bulb. 13v - 5v = 8v therefore bulb lighting as if connected to a battery with 8v of charge. As power travels between batteries, 13v became 12.5v and 5v became 6.8v 12.5v - 6.8v = 5.7v therefore bulb now...

Re: Electical fault? dead battery?
Reporting in! OK, so, after a night of charging, the leisure battery was back to ~13v after being taken off charge and allowed to rest. Starter Battery was showing 5v now after a night of rest, disconnected from the rest of the Bongo (up from 1.8v which both batteries were showing when everything wa...

Re: Electical fault? dead battery?
OK several things, first as both batteries are discharged, then are you sure that the alternator is charging ? Nope, not certain, haven't had Bongo running today to test, and hadn't noticed an issue since last parking it up (last drive was middle of the night, and no noticable issue with lights, et...

Electical fault? dead battery?
hi Folks, Well, after my head gasket failure was resolved (replacement engine from discount trucks got be going again; they appear to be great in the pre-sales & the doing; less great in post-sales communication...), I fitted a leisure battery and split-charge relay kit (willinton via ebay shop)...

Re: Head Gasket Quotes - South East
OK, so, per other thread, finally made up my mind & the Bongo has gone off today on the back of a Tow Truck to Discount Trucks in Newbury where it'll have a replacement engine dropped in, I should have it back in a couple of weeks & then I can get out there and enjoy the summer (planning a t...

Re: Overheating Issue
Well, It took me a month to finally decide what to do, but as of an hour or so ago, el Bongo is now on the back of a Breakdown truck and headed for Discount Trucks in Newbury, where it'll be having a replacement engine fitted. Went out today, before breakdown truck arrived, checked headed tank (no l...

Head Gasket Quotes - South East
Hi Folks, been phoning round for quotes to get the head gasket (hopefully not the head, but, never know) done in the South East (I'm in Letchworth, Herts, but no garages with Bongo experience are), thought i'd post the various quotes incase people in a similar situation are interested, I've seen var...

Re: New radiator and bottom hose temp?
Well, would expect a v6 petrol to warm up a bit quicker than a diesel.

Re: New radiator and bottom hose temp?
Having been playing with my cooling system a LOT recently, "red hot" there after that distance sounds wrong to me, I'd expect it to be starting to warm at that point (stat just beginning to open). How does the temp of that hose compare to the temp of the top hose coming into the rad, and t...

Re: Overheating Issue
Just reread the start of this topic....I see you did overheat....I fear the worst. Shhh you, smarty-pants :P On a serious note though, until today, no failed head-gasket test, possible that I was basically "at the very start of it" from the very first overeheat back in mid-April, and that...

Re: Overheating Issue
Thought i'd post this, for those who've not seen a failed head-gasket test before: http://lh3.ggpht.com/_EReTHD36lmU/SiK_VIgMpAI/AAAAAAAAECo/bYLbP3Rr7MI/s400/DSCF2379.JPG A "pass" (no exhaust gases in coolant) should remain the nice deep blue you see on the left, a "fail" will ch...

Re: Overheating Issue
Arse, Went out to bleed the car, opened expansion tank, opened & hung bleed pipe, started engine. Lot of gurgling, I thought "that seems an unlikely amount", it continued for 30 seconds, so i wandered into the garage, found my block tester, filled with fresh fluid, tested, and lo and b...
