No cat fitted on a diesel, the smell is probably from a car in front, who's cat is not yet up to temperature. As you pull away you drive into the smell. Or one of the kids keeps letting off stink bombs.

I'm with the others here, a 2 1/2 litre diesel should do at least 200 000 miles, so the differance between 50 000 and 70 000 is not significant. My 18 year old car, 1800 petrol, has covered 160 000 trouble free miles, just keep on top of the service schedule and save the money. To prove the mileage ...

Personaly I wouldn't do this due to possibility of all the problems litsted above. You may also not have enough power in the battery to draw fuel through.

If you don't have a jigsaw you can drill small holes all around the masked area, open out with a small round file, then tidy with a flat b******. (Proper file, honest.)
