Re: restarting after 18 months SORN?

Hi - How long were you turning the engine over for? If the seals on your fuel pump are past their best the diesel can drain back out of the engine past the seals and back into the fuel tank. We didn't use our Bongo for 3 months or so last year and when we came to start it displayed the same symptoms...

Re: Indicator bulb housing

Do you literally just need to bit the bulb screws / slots into? If so I think I can help as I'm pretty sure I have most of the innards of a rear light cluster at home, so I'd be happy to chop the relevant bit out of this. I'll check tonight and let you know.

Re: Bongo won't start - starter motor??

Just a belated update on this problem. Turns out Mike was correct in his thoughts about the fuel pump. Turns out the seals must be going. Having been unused for a while the fuel must have drained back into the fuel tank which apparently created a vacuum in the fuel line, hence no fuel getting to the...

Re: Bongo won't start - starter motor??

Thanks for the replies. The battery is a big Bosch one as recommended on here, from memory its 95Ah. I'm as sure as I can be the battery is ok as it turned over and started ok initially. I have had flat batteries in the past and this was nothing like it, and the description of the starter motor not ...

Re: Bongo won't start - starter motor??

Thanks, it is a diesel. It has always been a bit hard to start if its been left for while so I wasn't concerned when it took two attempts to get her going. Is the bendix problem sometimes sorted with a wack to the starter motor?

Bongo won't start - starter motor??

Hi - just tried to start thee Bongo after 2 months without use. After turning the engine over a couple of times got her going but she then conked out - not unusual after a period without use. Tried again and engine wouldn't turn over but there is a high pitched noise coming from the engine ( a sort ...

Re: Which coolant to add

I've used the Prestone universal anti-freeze without issue for a number of years. We have an extremely slow coolant loss in our bongo and use this to top up. I think we have the red long life coolant in our Bongo. I have also used it in my citroen picasso (please, don't judge) which has the green st...

Re: What driving licence class is required?

It would be wise to check but I think your wife should be ok to drive a bongo - I think it is classified as an estate or MPV so she should be able to drive it. I think the change between the 80s and 90s had to do with driving vehicles over 3.5 tonnes which shouldn't affect a bongo.

Re: New alternator needed - Bristol area

Just an update - got my cousin (who knows a thing or two about cars) to have a look and it turns out it was a bad / loose connection at the alternator. All now well and no need to go to the expense of buying a new alternator so happy days....

New alternator needed - Bristol area

Hi looks our our alternator is on the way out (flashing battery and sediment lights). 2.5 diesel engine. Could anyone recommend the best place to get a new, refurb or second hand alternator? Alternatively, can anyone recommend anywhere in the Bristol area that refurbishes alternators?

Re: Low coolant after hard drive

I'm no expert but if its below the 'low' line then I think it needs topping up! I always make sure the coolant level in my Bongo is near to the 'max' line (with the engine cold). If you don't know what type of anti-freeze you have in your Bongo I'd suggest either topping it up with water or using so...

Re: Bristol newbie

I doubt it, they are more of a traditional back street garage who specialise in Bongos.
