Re: Help - Starting issue

Bench tested the new starter motor, and the solenoid wouldn’t stay held in. Cannot believe it, all that faffing about wondering what it could be and it was the brand new starter motor! Disappointed to say the least. Now I’ve got the battle of returning it but at least the bongo is back on the road 😊...

Re: Help - Starting issue

Thanks Bob, I’ve only got a basic fluke, it’s readings 12.5v but I can’t check what it’s like with load. I’ve stuck it on trickle charge for now and will see if that works, if not, I’ll take it to the local county battery place and ask them to test. It’s just strange how it used to start first turn ...

Re: Help - Starting issue

I’ve checked all relevant fuses and have put the battery on charge. I can’t think what else it could be. I’ve read through other posts and will be checking in the morning to see if the glow plug rail is earthing out on the injectors somehow causing a greater drain on the battery. Other than that, I’...

Help - Starting issue

Evening all, I recently got the bongo back on the road, and whilst on my way to take the dog out in it, just as I was pulling in to get some fuel she cut out. I thought the gauge must be out slightly and thought nothing more of it. Filled her up, went to crank, nothing. Tried again, then she nearly ...

Re: 2.5td engine out

Quick update. Engine & gearbox are out...took some head scratching to be able to lift the van high enough as i didn’t have enough wood to chock under wheels etc but I got there. I’m stripping the engine down and am stuck on the fluid flywheel/viscous coupling (see pic, if it works!) has anyone g...

Re: 2.5td engine out

Thanks all for your responses! I’ve got a new block and pistons that I’m going to swap everything that’s serviceable and in good condition over to. I’ll pretty much have a brand new engine unit once complete. I’ve got a few bits of surface rust (fingers crossed that’s all it is) so I’m going to hamm...

Re: 2.5td engine out

Thats what I’m worried about Bob! Be just my luck.

Good shout willow2u, I’ve got a few spare wheels so will give that a go. At that height would I be able to slide a complete engine back under?

Re: 2.5td engine out

Thanks for the reply Bob. Do you know how high the van is lifted when taking a whole engine out (roughly)? I’ve only got small basic axle stands and a 2T jack so I think I may struggle. If no one else has done it I may have to persevere and knock together a little write up...if it works  Gotta ...

2.5td engine out

Hi all, I recently joined the bongo gang on the cheap. I’ve purchased a non-runner with suspected head gasket fault but it turns out to be a split cylinder wall on pot 4. I’ve stripped off the head and dropped the gearbox to the ground, and I’m now at the stage ready to rip the bottom end out of the...
